Initiatives

Ceasefire Sabbath

Public safety is Mayor Barrett's top priority and his Ceasefire Sabbath is an important part of his efforts to galvanize the community to fight crime, reduce violence and make every neighborhood safer.

Earn & Learn

Mayor Barrett's summer youth employment program works in partnership with local business, non-profit, and community- and faith-based organizations to assist young people from Milwaukee in making a successful transition from adolescence into adulthood through job skills and work experience.

Fatherhood Initiative

Mayor Barrett strongly believes father involvement not only helps children and families, but strengthens the entire city. The Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative gives thousands of men the tools they need to become better dads with thriving children.

Holiday Drive

Every day brave men and women in the armed forces selflessly defend our country and the freedoms we cherish. Through the Annual Holiday Drive, City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County employees, community partners, businesses and residents show their appreciation to these individuals.

I Have A Dream Milwaukee

“I Have A Dream” Milwaukee is a unique affiliate of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation. The program is driven by individuals and public and private sector organizations committed to helping children from low-income backgrounds achieve a higher education.

Mayor's Manufacturing Partnership

The Milwaukee Region is among the top manufacturing centers in the U.S. The Mayor's Manufacturing Partnership aims to bridge the divide between jobseekers and available manufacturing jobs by directly addressing skills gaps and working with companies to develop employer-driven training.

Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO)

Mayor Barrett has enacted his vision for a more sustainable Milwaukee by establishing the Environmental Collaboration Office, which promotes cost-effective sustainability practices that meet Milwaukee’s environmental, economic and social needs while enhancing economic growth.

Safe Summer Initiative

Through this annual event, Mayor Barrett and various partners offer young people in our community an opportunity to have a safe summer and enjoy a memorable day as a reward for their good behavior and dedicated effort at school. For many of the participants, it is their first major sporting league experience.

Strong Neighborhoods Plan

The City is owner of last resort for more than 1,100 residential properties. Many of these homes have gone through foreclosure and abandonment, which creates venues for crime and drags down property values. The Mayor developed the Strong Neighborhoods Plan to continue the success Milwaukee has seen in the fight against foreclosure.

Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days

Mayor Barrett created the Walk 100 challenge to increase physical activity among residents and encourage all to explore Milwaukee’s neighborhoods. Throughout the summer, Walk 100 partners with community organizations, elected officials, and residents to host walks in all corners of the city.
