FEED MKE COLLABS BANNER - Group of People at a Farmer's Market

Building Partnerships Through Collaboration

FEED MKE - Woman Holding Vegetables

The Big Picture

The City of Milwaukee’s FEED MKE Pilot Project, led by the Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO), is forging strong partnerships with local organizations to feed the hungry, reduce food waste, and minimize environmental impact by increasing composting efforts – keeping organic food waste out of landfills.

By working with collaborative partners – including those listed below – FEED MKE helps rescue edible food that would otherwise be wasted and redirects it to individuals and families facing food insecurity.  These efforts not only provide nutritious meals to hungry people – they build a stronger, more sustainable Milwaukee for all.

Special Focus on Food Pantries and Meal Sites

Milwaukee's Landscape

Food Pantry ShelvesMilwaukee offers numerous resources to the city's most vulnerable – including shelters, food banks, and food pantries. A dedicated network of committed volunteers ensures that these centers provide free food and other essential services to the community.

Despite these efforts, food insecurity remains a major challenge. Milwaukee County has the second-highest food insecurity rate in Wisconsin, with 18.3% of residents and more than 1 in 4 children in the City of Milwaukee facing daily food insecurity. This challenge is compounded by poverty, health disparities, and crime (Feeding America, 2023Hunger Task Force, 2024).

The organizations below ensure Milwaukee residents have consistent access to support. They raise funds, recruit volunteers, and collaborate to reach vulnerable populations. Whether you need help or want to support their work, we encourage you to connect and get involved.  Together, we can build a stronger, more food-secure Milwaukee.
