The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works and Wisconsin Department of Transportation are planning to resurface West Hampton Avenue from North 60th Street to North Teutonia Avenue (2.0 miles). The scope of work includes milling and resurfacing the deteriorated asphaltic pavement, replacing driveway approaches and sidewalk, where necessary. Pedestrian curb ramps will be built to meet current ADA standards. An improved at-grade railroad crossing near N. Teutonia Ave. is planned. The traffic signals at N. Hopkins St., N. 37th St., N. 35th St. and N. 32nd St. and street lights are planned for upgrade. Enhancements to pedestrian and bike accommodations, traffic calming and bus stops are being considered. Safety improvements are a top priority as the crash rate on West Hampton Avenue is greater than the statewide average on similar roadway types. 16 crashes involving pedestrians and 5 crashes involving bicyclists have occurred on within the project limits between 2013 and 2017.

Estimated cost is $8.6 million dollars. Approximate breakdown:

- Posted speed: 30 mph
We are currently in the preliminary design phase. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2023.
