Mayor's Strategic Goals

The services and programs that the City provides are tied to four strategic goals:

  1. Provide safety and stability for all Milwaukee neighborhoods
  2. Increase economic opportunity and family supporting employment for all Milwaukeeans
  3. Protect children’s health and put them on a path for educational success from birth to adulthood
  4. Preserve and leverage the City’s environmental and physical assets


City Strategic Planning Initiatives

The City has led several strategic planning initiatives in recent years. Many of these initiatives involve partnership and collaboration with a variety of community organizations and stakeholders and include topics such as violence prevention, public health improvement, equity, economic development, housing, and community sustainability, among others.  

Green Infrastructure Plan

By 2030, Milwaukee will add approximately 36 million gallons of stormwater storage by implementing green infrastructure. Green infrastructure will be designed, installed, and maintained by an inclusive workforce that is representative of the City’s diversity. The Green Infrastructure Plan will help Milwaukee adapt to climate change while creating a healthier and more resilient city.

STRONG Neighborhoods Plan

The Strong Neighborhoods Plan is Mayor Barrett’s initiative to address City tax foreclosures. The goals of the plan are to: PREVENT tax foreclosures with new City efforts and working with community partners; MITIGATE blight and maintain City owned property to a “good neighbor” standard; REVITALIZE neighborhoods by selling City properties and generating funds for renovation; and RENEW our neighborhoods by activating vacant spaces, involving city businesses, and creating job opportunities for city residents.

Milwaukee's Comprehensive Plan consists of a Citywide Policy Plan and Area Plans. The City also prepares other plans and studies which guide development in individual neighborhoods; these documents include neighborhood redevelopment and action plans. The Comprehensive Plan is the cornerstone of all local land use decisions.
