Alderwoman Chantia Lewis'
Alderwoman Chantia Lewis was elected to represent her neighbors as the Alderwoman in 2016. Then and now she works to earn the support of her constituents by being an active community member and crusader for the District – something that began when she was still just a homeowner and small business operator. Since her election, she believes she has repaid District 9’s confidence in her by vigilantly fighting for her constituents and their interests.
Alderwoman Lewis has welcomed numerous new businesses to District 9 in the short time that she has been in office. National franchises such as “Dunkin’ Donuts” and “Captain D’s” felt confident enough in her leadership to invest in the “New 9th”.
Alderwoman Lewis has been on a personal crusade to protect the small business of District 9 that community members love. She tasks herself with the responsibility for inspiring and encouraging local restaurants. Already residents have seen the opening of “Rey’s Café” and “El Tenampa Mexican Grill”.
Alderwoman Lewis fights with the same fire to improve the whole City of Milwaukee. She is a member of seven committees: Licenses, Public Safety and Health, Milwaukee Committee on Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence, National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Federal Advocacy Committee, National League of Cities Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, and Ethics Advisory Committee of Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee. Notably, Alderwoman Lewis is the Vice-President of the City of Milwaukee’s Finance and Personnel Committee, demonstrating that her peers have full confidence in her leadership.
Alderwoman Lewis has passed a wide range of legislation in the short time that she has been in office. She is focusing on creating programs and legislation to take Milwaukee to the next level. Alderwoman Lewis is crusading for anti-littering legislation to keep Milwaukee beautiful. She is also fighting for a Health Board and a city investment in STD prevention programs in order to improve the quality of life for all Milwaukee residents. Alderwoman Lewis uses her personal time researching and travelling in search of the best answers to Milwaukee’s problems.
Alderwoman Lewis’ inclination to serve is nothing new. Alderwoman Lewis fought for this country as a member of the Air Force. After returning home and graduating from Alverno College, the she began work as a trainer for One Step at a Time. She was also a Board Member for 9to5, fighting for multiple social justice causes.
In her spare time, Alderwoman Lewis still finds time to spend with her children and husband. She is a minister at her church and is continuing her education by studying for an Master’s degree in Theoloogy. Alderwoman Lewis' love of service and bold vision are why she believes she and those she serves will take the Ninth District and the City to places it has never been before.
