Winter Parking Regulations
Vehicles must be legally parked and in compliance with all posted signs.

DECEMBER 1 TO MARCH 1
SPECIFIC SIDE PARKING
Certain residential streets are restricted to parking on a specific side of the street during the winter months. These streets are posted with signs reading "No Parking" on one side of the street, either for the entire December 1 to March 1 period, or with a monthly alternation of the prohibited side. To determine whether this regulation applies to a specific street go to Street Parking Regulations.
EXCEPTION ALTERNATE SIDE NIGHT PARKING
Night parking is allowed on both sides of these streets from March 1 to December 1. From December 1 to March 1 alternate side night parking is required. On even-numbered calendar days (before midnight) a vehicle with a valid night permit must be legally parked on the side of the street with even house numbers; on odd-numbered calendar days (before midnight) a vehicle must be parked on the side of the street with odd house numbers. Parking is allowed between 2:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. with a valid permit or night parking permission with some exceptions. No overnight parking is allowed on through highways and (bus) routes from December 1 to March 1. These streets are not individually posted. For a list of these streets please go to the Winter Parking Regulations- Not Individually Posted page or see streets in red on map below.
Red- No overnight parking on either side of the street 2:00 A.M. - 6:00 A.M. from Dec. 1 to Mar 1 and during a Snow Emergency 10:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M.
Green- Snow Operation/Snow Emergency Tow-Away zone, vehicles parked on these streets during a Snow Operation 11PM-6AM are subject to towing.
WHEN A SNOW EMERGENCY IS DECLARED
A Snow Emergency is declared whenever snow fall during any period of 24 hours or less which is determined and declared by the Commissioner of Public Works to constitute a serious public hazard impairing transportation, the movement of food and fuel supplies, medical care, fire, health, and police protection, and other vital facilities of the City. Such an emergency is declared to continue for a period of 72 hours or until such earlier times as snow plowing operations have been declared completed by the Commissioner of Public Works. In addition to the regulations below, "Temporary No Parking" signs may be posted by the City to assist in clean-up after major snowfalls.
Vehicles which are not parked in compliance with winter parking regulations during the winter season will be cited:
- 1st violation - $50
- 2nd violation - $100
- 3+ violations - $150 & tow eligible
No parking is allowed on through highways and mass transit (bus) routes from 10M-6AM. These streets are not posted, see streets on map in red above. Vehicles must be moved to a side street and be legally parked in conformity with all other regulations on the proper side of the street.
ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING
Alternate side parking is required from 10PM-6AM, unless otherwise posted. On even-numbered calendar days (before midnight) a vehicle with a valid night permit must be legally parked on the side of the street with even house numbers; on odd-numbered calendar days (before midnight) a vehicle must be parked on the side of the street with odd house numbers. Milwaukee Public Schools make some of its playgrounds available for overnight parking during declared snow emergencies and clean-up periods.
