The Milwaukee Fire Department's Response protocol new as of 12/5/06:

Structure fire 1st Alarm : 4 Engine Companies*, 2 Ladder Companies, 2 Battalion Chiefs, 1 Paramedic Unit

* A 5th Engine Company is sent on fires in the Northwest area of the city due to water supply issues and to all fires during adverse weather conditions.

2nd Alarm: 3 Engine Companies, 2 Ladder Companies, 1 Paramedic unit, Compressed Air Unit (Cair 1 or 2), Communications Unit (Comm) with Engine Company for staffing, Firefighting Deputy Chief (Car 3)

3rd Alarm :3 Engine Companies, 1 Ladder Company, 1 Battalion Chief, Heavy Urban Rescue Team (HURT) Engine 12, Ladder 11, Rescue 1, HURT 2 for RIT operations.

4th Alarm: 3 Engine Companies

5th Alarm: 3 Engine Companies

Staffing for MFD equipment:

Engine Companies 1 Officer, 1 Heavy Equipment Operator, 2 Firefighters

Ladder Companies 1 Officer, 1 Heavy Equipment Operator, 3 Firefighters ( As of 12/31/06 Ladders 1, 10, 14 , 15 & 17 run with 1 Officer, 1 Heavy Equipment Operator and 2 Firefighters.)
