Milwaukee Fire Department
Are you a high school student or recent graduate curious about a career in the fire service?
Milwaukee Fire Department Junior Fire Institute (JFI) is looking for students (ages 14-20) to join our team. The JFI meets once a month and participants are taught basic firefighting and first-aide skills. JFI members also have the opportunity to get an inside look at the fire department and decide if it is a career they would like to pursue.
The MFD provides all of the JFI members equipment, so participants simply need to show up with a good attitude and an open mind. Our experienced firefighters, who all volunteer their time to this initiative, are proud to provide the JFI's exciting, hands-on learning opportunities.
JHI members will become familiar with performing firefighting tasks with actual firefighting equipment, and participate in various community service functions for the Milwaukee Fire Department. Our volunteer staff is composed of all ranks and includes members of the Milwaukee Fire Department’s special teams such as Dive Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Heavy Urban Rescue. You can find current JFI events, pictures and up to date information on their facebook page Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute
All JFI members are able to purchase uniform shirts for a nominal fee. If you are interested, please Contact Lt. Joseph Hayes at [email protected] or call 414-788-3270 with questions.
