Assistant Police Chief Steven Caballero
Assistant Chief Caballero began his policing career in September of 1993 when he graduated from Milwaukee’s Police Academy. He patrolled District Two for several years until promoted to Detective in 2000. He was transferred to the Homicide Division a year later. After helping investigate hundreds of homicides and other important investigations, he was promoted to Lieutenant and stayed in the Homicide Division.
As a Lieutenant, he started the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team to address officer-involved shootings, developing a team of highly trained investigators from across the Metro-Milwaukee area. He was promoted to Captain and was soon back commanding the Homicide Division where the detectives gained one of the highest clearance rates in the country.
The Assistant Chief graduated in 2004 from the FBI Hazardous Devices School and is a trained Bomb Technician. He is a proud alum of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, the Northwestern University, Supervision of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms certified Explosives Specialist basic course. More recently, in 2016, he graduated as a Certified Public Manager from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law Enforcement Command College.
