Assistant Chief Ray Banks
Assistant Chief Ray Banks is the Assistant Chief of the Administration Bureau following his promotion in April of 2018. Prior to that assignment, he was commander in charge of the Milwaukee Police Department’s Office of Community Outreach and Education (OCOE). Banks joined the Milwaukee Police Department in 1991 and achieved the ranks of Officer, Sergeant, and Lieutenant before he was promoted to his current rank and position in February 2016. As a Lieutenant, Banks worked in District Seven, North Investigations Division, and the Investigative Management Division. Prior to working at MPD, Captain Banks was a State Trooper in the Wisconsin State Patrol from 1990-1991. In all of his roles, Banks is committed to preserving public peace and order, preventing and detecting crime, and improving the quality of life for the citizens of Milwaukee. Assistant Chief Banks graduated Summa Cum Laude from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and in 2009 graduated from the Leadership in Policing Organizations. In 2016, he obtained his Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership and Administration from Concordia University in Mequon.
