Transitional Jobs Program to be Part of City's Plan to Fix Potholes

April 8, 2014

Mayor Tom Barrett will announce that the Transitional Jobs Program will be a part of the City’s plan to fix potholes throughout the city.
The City will work with UMOS, a nonprofit advocacy group that helps underserved populations with employment, education, health and housing opportunities, to place 25 workers within the Department of Public Works on the pothole crew.
Given the harsh winter we’ve had, Milwaukee’s local roads are in great need of pothole repair, and other repair. In the first quarter of the year, the City’s call center received 4,101 requests for pothole repairs. The 25 Transitional Jobs workers would supplement the 75 workers already on the City’s pothole crew.
