Mayor Tom Barrett’s
2019 Ceasefire Sabbath Breakfast
I Am My Brother’s Keeper
Renewing Our Commitment, Strengthening Our Bonds
Wednesday, May 15, 2019
Abundant Faith Church of Integrity, 7830 West Good Hope Road
8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Dear Faith Leader:
When President Obama announced his My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Initiative in February 2014, he issued a call to action for every American to recognize that "my neighbor’s child is my child." I agree each of us has an obligation to give every child the same chance this country has given many of us. The City of Milwaukee accepted the President’s challenge and continues to work with national and local partners to meet the initiative’s goals.
Please join me to hear about what we have done through Milwaukee’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative. I am pleased to share our efforts implementing strategies aimed at addressing the challenges faced by boys and men of color in Milwaukee.
The keynote speaker for this year’s breakfast is Dr. Jim Bostic, Th.D., Executive Director of the Nepperhan Community Center, Inc. in Yonkers, NY and Co-Chair of the City of Yonkers My Brother’s Keeper Initiative. Dr. Bostic is a fierce advocate for building up families to strengthen our communities, and I am sure his message will be motivating and inspiring.
A panel discussion will follow on our efforts eliminating opportunity gaps, barriers and challenges facing youth in our community, ensuring that all young people in our city are positioned to succeed. Panelists will include:
- Lanelle Ramey, Director of the Department of Black and Latino Male Achievement, MPS
- Nicole Brookshire, Director of the Office on African American Affairs, Milwaukee County
- Chris Rutherford, Manager of the Promise of Place Program/Campaign for Black Male Achievement (Detroit, MI)
- Reggie Moore, Director of the Office of Violence Prevention
- Alicia Moore, Executive Director of MENTOR Greater Milwaukee
Please RSVP no later than 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 8th by emailing email@example.com, with your name, number of persons attending and your contact information.
I look forward to seeing you on May 15th. Thanks for being a part of this critical work.
