Community Improvement Project (CIP) Info Sessions

NIDC CIP match grants support community projects that engage community members and physically improve neighborhoods in Milwaukee. CIP grants are reimbursable grants that require a dollar–for-dollar match from non-City funding sources. The maximum CIP grant request is $4,000.

Healing Spaces Initiative

The Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC) is leading the city’s effort to launch the Healing Spaces Initiative in the Harambee neighborhood. Bader Philanthropies Inc. is supporting the Healing Spaces Initiative with a $70,000 grant. 

The Healing Spaces Initiative will help residents build relaxing natural environments on available city-owned vacant lots while, at the same time, eliminate blighted spaces and engage residents. Projects will include pathways, benches, flower gardens, solar lights, Free Little Libraries and more. By engaging in these activities, citizen volunteers will create safe spaces for rest and rejuvenation in the Harambee neighborhood. 

This spring 22 applications were received from residents and community based organizations. Out of that pool, ten outstanding applications were chosen. By the end of September all the Healing Spaces will be built and available to the public.

Second MKE Black Summer Marketplace happening Saturday

On Saturday, July 24, at 11 a.m., the second MKE Black Summer Marketplace, an outdoor marketplace focused on uplifting local Black-owned businesses, will take place at the Beerline Plaza, 3356 N. Holton St.

The event is presented by MKE Black, a non-profit that provides a directory of Black-owned businesses in the greater Milwaukee area, as well as connects businesses to resources, capital, and networks. 

The event is free and open to the public and will be hosted on the fourth Saturday of each month throughout the summer. Additional information can be found at

The Beerline Shuffle: 3 miles of Art, Music & Unity

Riverworks is excited to bring to life the first annual Beerline Shuffle! This event will take place on Saturday, August 28th from 9:00 - 11:00am.

While on a three mile walk along the Beerline Trail (through both Harambee and Riverwest), we will shuffle along to live music, participate in community art projects, and have an array of other fun activities for all ages!
