We also invite you to attend the 15th Annual Back-To-School Health Fair on August 7 or August 14. The City of Milwaukee Health Department offers FREE backpacks for kids and FREE school supplies to those with up-to-date shot records or to those that get their shots and lead testing done at the fair. STRONG kids grow STRONG neighborhoods!

Desconstruction Creates Job Training & Material Reuse

On July 14, 2015, Mayor Tom Barrett, Alderman Bauman and Alderman Wade attended a press conference at WasteCap, followed by a tour of a deconstruction project.

Dozens of properties on the demolition list had been referred for salvage and hybrid deconstruction in the spring and summer of 2015. The services of the Milwaukee Community Service Corps and Northcott Neighborhood House, in partnership with WasteCap, are a welcome addition to the City of Milwaukee and provide another opportunity to build STRONGer neighborhoods together. Underemployed and underskilled workers are gaining valuable work training, which will allow them the experience needed to move on to other constuction-related jobs after their training period is over.

WasteCap's new salvage store is also now open to the public at 2123 W. Michigan St. The  warehouse allows for storage and retail space, which enables WasteCap to salvage and resell useful building materials that can be repurposed instead of ending up in our landfills.
