Individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing may contact City agencies using the Wisconsin Telephone Relay Service if they have a TTY. Dial 711 to reach the Relay Service. If you are dialing from outside the 414 area code, dial the Relay Service toll free at 1-800-947-3529.
During a typical relay call the TTY user types his/her message, which is transmitted to a Communications Assistant (CA). The CA then reads the message to the person on the other end of the line. When that person responds, the CA then types the message back to the TTY user.
There is no additional cost for using the relay service, however, any toll or long-distance calls would be billed as though dialed directly. Of course, if you have a calling plan with a long-distance carrier you must advise the CA who your carrier is, before your call is dialed out, to ensure that any calls placed through the relay service are billed correctly.
In an emergency, dial 911.
