HOW TO REVIEW ASSESSMENTS

 

The 2012 assessment rolls and sales information will be open for inspection at the Assessor's Office starting Monday, April 30, 2012. Regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. For your convenience, office hours have been extended as follows: Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11, 2012; 8 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Starting May 12th, normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. will resume. Property owners can review assessments and discuss concerns with an assessor during any of these times. No appointment is needed.

Property owners can also view assessments the Internet using the City Assessor's Office home page. The home page address is: http://www.milwaukee.gov/assessor . 

Making assessment and sales data available on the Internet gives the public the greatest access possible to property and sales information as well as the assessments on every property in Milwaukee.  In addition to being a convenience for taxpayers, computerizing assessment data saves tax dollars by reducing manpower costs for city employees. 

All interested property owners are encouraged to compare the new assessments to recent similar sales in the area.  The best evidence of market  value is a recent sale of the property or the sales of comparable properties.   

Accessing assessment data on the Internet 

Any computer connected to the Internet can be used to review 2012 assessment data for any property in the City of Milwaukee at no cost. The Internet address for City of Milwaukee assessments is:

 Users of the Internet assessment program simply enter a street address in the City of Milwaukee. The program then lists the assessment, tax key number, owner's name and address, property class and other information such as the year of construction, number of dwelling units, total square feet, number and types of rooms, lot size, number of stories, last sale date and other building features.
