Project Summary

South 1st Street Update 1

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
In April of 2010, the City of Milwaukee in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation began work on the reconstruction of South First Street from West Lincoln Avenue to South Kinnickinnic Avenue. Work includes the removal of existing pavement and installation of new concrete roadway, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. The project is funded largely with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. When completed, each side of First Street will include a parking lane, a new bike lane, and a traffic lane. The first phase of the work has taken place on the west side of First Street with two-way traffic retained on the east side. Construction crews are nearing completion on the first phase and hope to begin the second phase the week of July 19th by opening the new west lanes to two-way through-traffic and shifting construction to the east lanes. All work is scheduled for completion mid to late-October 2010.
