A Sanitation employee will retrieve the cart from its storage area, empty it, and return it to the storage area.

A person who is not a senior citizen, not physically able to roll the garbage cart to the curb, and back and has no other able-bodied person in the household to do this will be given a Disability Hardship designation with medical documentation.

Winter Sidewalk Clearing

Residents who are physically unable to shovel the sidewalk may apply to the Sanitation Division for assistance.

Qualified residents:

  • live in and own a single family home
  • are physically unable to clear the sidewalk in front of their home
  • must certify that they and all other occupants of their home are senior citizens or handicapped and are physically unable to shovel the sidewalk
  • must certify that they were unable to obtain the services of any other individual

The Sanitation Division will send a contractor to clear a path on sidewalk in front of the residence only. Driveways, the walk up to the house, and side walkways on private property are not cleared by Sanitation crews. The service is provided only when plowing operations are called (usually when there is more than 4" of snow). There is a fee of $30 for each occurrence for this service and charges will be included in the property tax bill.
