Operations Division

Buildings & Fleet Services

Buildings & Fleet Services is the classic example of an internal service agency providing core services to city departments and agencies. The Division is a composite of licensed professionals, skilled trades, certified mechanics and technicians, experienced fleet drivers, communication operations, dispatchers and experienced office staff. The Division has undergone a multitude of staffing changes throughout the past several years. A vast number of methods and processes have been streamlined and the application of technology has created a more efficient and effective section.

Buildings & Fleet Services includes the Recreational Facilities Unit which provides the external service of operating and maintaining play areas, green areas and administering major reconstructions of Milwaukee Public School recreation sites.

Construction Related Material Charge.  There is a charge for all City residents bringing construction related material into the self help stations. This includes roofing material, brick, stones, concrete, lumber, drywall, paneling and other construction material.

The charge is $15 for up to 8 cubic yards, and $30 for 8-16 cubic yards.  (16 cubic yard maximum.)  No contractor vehicles allowed.

Bulky Changes in 2011!  Beginning January 1, 2011, city crews will only pick up one (1) cubic yard of extra material placed out for pickup on your designated collection day. This is about the size of an easy chair.  Call 286-CITY (2489) to request pickup of larger piles for a fee. See the self help page for more information
Extra Cart Fee. Beginning January 1, 2012 households with more than one garbage cart will incur a $10 per quarter charge for each additional garbage cart.
