Green Roof on 809 Broadway Building of City Hall Complex

Before & After

Close Up

A green roof was installed in 2007 on the 809 Broadway Building, located at North Broadway and East Wells. The building houses the Department of City Development and other city agencies.

  • Street storm water runoff is projected to be reduced by 50%
  • The heat island effect is reduced with the green roof. “Heat island" describes built-up areas that are hotter than nearby rural areas. Heat islands can affect communities by increasing summertime peak energy demand, air conditioning costs, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, heat-related illness and mortality, and water quality.
