The City of Milwaukee - Milwaukee Shines is facilitating a friendly learning partnership between two Milwaukee Public High Schools: Riverside High School and Bayview High School. The "swap" involves the installation of a solar electric and solar water heating system on each school. The project will train students in the basics of a solar site assessment, financing, and installation of solar systems. The project will also educate the broader community about the benefits of solar energy.
This program is funded through a Recovery Act "Special Projects Award" for solar market transformation through the U.S. Department of Energy Solar America Cities.
The site assessments were already conducted while the installations on both schools are planned for Fall 2011. In the meantime, both schools are working on incorporating solar into their curriculum. This is a unique project that involves students in the actual solar installation, from start-to-finish.
