Lao Family Community Inc.

Latino Community Center

Latino Community Center offers programming in the following areas: after school academic enrichment, gang and violence diversion, recreation, youth development, prevention programming, street outreach, summer programming, and healthy girls, Programs run not only at the Center, but also at six public schools as well as in the streets. Programming is based on best practices in the field of positive youth development to ensure effectiveness. Structured and unstructured, bilingual and bicultural opportunities reach a wide variety of at-risk youth in the area, including gang members, young girls, out-of-school youth and teenaged males.

Milwaukee Women’s Center
Since 1980, the Milwaukee Women’s Center has been serving individuals and families affected by domestic violence and co-occurring issues. To fulfill its mission, MWC provides emergency shelter and transportation, a 24-hour crisis line, specialized services and support for older abused women, children’s programming, and batterers’ treatment, case management to meet housing and other basic needs, and counseling to address domestic violence and substance abuse issues.

Next Door Foundation

Founded in 1969, Next Door plays a vital community role by serving more than 2,150 Milwaukee central city children, youth and parents each year. Our early intervention efforts especially benefit children who may be at risk for later school failure. Next Door also promotes positive outcomes for children 6-16 years of age by strengthening academics, emphasizing relationships to family, building peer support and encouraging service to the community.

Ready to Read with Books 2 Go

The Ready to Read with Books2Go project is an intensive literacy development program with the goal that children are ready to read as they enter Kindergarten. The program incorporates the development of the Six Skills of early literacy in children and models ways for child care providers to incorporate Six Skills development into their daily routines.

Rosalie Manor Community and Family Services

Social Development Commission

The SDC directly operates 18 programs designed to improve the overall quality of life for low-income people. Through its programs, the SDC provides services to approximately 100,000 people annually. The SDC targets its services to low-income individuals and families who reside in Milwaukee County. The target population includes children in single-parent households, low-income older adults, at-risk youth involved in delinquency and gang-related activities, low-income homeowners and homeless families. The SDC’s clients mirror the profile of poverty in Milwaukee.
