Alliance for Wisconsin Youth Youth Services Health Information Resource
The Alliance for Wisconsin Youth brings together coalitions, individuals, and resources to prevent substance abuse and related behavioral health concerns affecting young people, and to promote positive youth development. The Alliance’s mission is to enhance and support the capacity of local Alliances (member coalitions) in their prevention and youth development work. Over 100 local coalitions are members of the Alliance.

Asha Family Services, Inc Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Violence, Assault, and Crime Gender Youth Services Information Resource
Asha Family Services, Inc. is a comprehensive family violence intervention and prevention agency located in Milwaukee, WI. Asha, the first and only recognized culturally-specific family violence intervention and prevention program in Wisconsin, employs methods specific to African American families. Asha (a Swahili and Indian word meaning “Life” and “Hope”) is a private, nonprofit, spiritually-based agency. Asha is also a state-licensed outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment clinic. Asha employs a holistic family approach and through collaborative efforts strives to provide effective, comprehensive family violence, mental health, HIV/AIDS education and counseling and substance abuse intervention and prevention.

Center for Veterans Issues Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Information Resource Disabilities Educational Services
Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Center for Veterans Issues, Ltd. (CVI) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit veteran’s administration and management organization. CVI supports the concerns of all veterans by providing information, resources, identification of funding, technical assistance and organizational development to veteran service organizations. CVI also provides transitional housing to homeless
veterans, while offering many services to help veterans transition back into the community.

Citizen Academy City of Milwaukee Educational Services Violence, Assault, and Crime Information Resource
The Milwaukee Police Citizen Academy is a ten-week program designed to provide citizens with a working knowledge of the Milwaukee Police Department. It consists of a series of classes held once a week for three hours. The 30-hour block of instruction will include classroom academics and practical applications in law, police procedure, defense and arrest tactics, firearms training and state of art
technology used to combat crime. Tours of various police facilities and demonstrations of equipment will also be conducted. Attendees may participate in a ride-along with officers. This program will provide citizens an opportunity to ask questions about police services and to express their concerns about quality of life issues. Upon conclusion, citizens completing 80% of the course will participate in a graduation ceremony.

Computer Training City of Milwaukee Educational Services Older Adults Information Resource
Throughout the year, the Milwaukee Public Library offers a series of free two-hour classes covering the basics of computers, including computer basics, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email, and internet searching are offered at every library. These classes provide instruction to those citizens who finished formal schooling before computers were widely available, and to those for whom computers are too expensive and who have subsequently had no experience using them.

Elder Safe Program City of Milwaukee Older Adults Information Resource
Outreach program for elderly that apprises them of the services offered by the Milwaukee Fire Department and other agencies (i.e. home safety, evacuation). The Islamic Society is the largest Islamic organization in Wisconsin and serves about 10,000 Muslims in the southeastern Wisconsin area. It was originally incorporated as the Islamic Association of Greater Milwaukee in 1976 and was reincorporated as the Islamic Foundation of Greater Milwaukee, Inc. in 1980. The organization has done business as the Islamic Society of Milwaukee since 1986. The organization is a non-profit religious organization.

Landlord Training Program City of Milwaukee Educational Services Legal Assistance Race and Ethnicity Disabilities Information Resource
The award winning landlord training program operates out of DNS's downtown office. The goal is to teach landlords fundamental ways to keep illegal activity out of their property. The classes are FREE and held on a regular basis through out the year at various locations. Attendees get a free 100 page comprehensive manual and handouts on a variety of legal and business issues related to managing a property.

The City of Milwaukee is partnering with Marquette University Law School in the Milwaukee Foreclosure Mediation Program – a program designed to help homeowners save their homes from foreclosure. Mediation is a confidential and voluntary process where a homeowner and the lender seeking to foreclose on your home may discuss ways to resolve a foreclosure case, including reinstatement of the loan and modification of the loan terms.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and HIV Program City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Information Resource
The City of Milwaukee Health Department's Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and HIV Program is supported primarily by the City of Milwaukee with significant assistance from the Wisconsin Division of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Services offered by the program include screening for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV counseling and testing, medical case management for women living with HIV, presentations to community groups and participation in health fairs.

The Center for Health Equity is dedicated to improving the social and economic factors that strongly influence our public health within the City of Milwaukee as well as throughout the state of Wisconsin. The Center will concentrate on improving the health of our population through three main strategies:

  • Encourage and support changes in public policy to improve the health of everyone in our community

The Department's primary responsibilities include providing job services, training and employment assistance to people looking for work, at the same time as it works with employers on finding the necessary workers to fill current job openings. Under the DWD umbrella, a wide variety of employment programs can be found which range from securing jobs for the disabled, assisting former welfare recipients as they make a transition into work, Promoting employment in the state through Wisconsin Job Centers, linking youth with jobs of tomorrow, protecting and enforcing worker's rights, processing unemployment claims and ensuringworkers compensation claims are paid in accordance with the law.
