Capital Access Program City of Milwaukee Financial Resources
The Capital Access Program (CAP) can provide access to financing for companies, especially start-ups and small businesses, which may not be able to obtain conventional  financing. CAP is a flexible loan loss reserve program that provides lenders with a way to fund  projects considered too risky for conventional lending.

Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability City of Milwaukee Legal Assistance
The center for Driver's License Recovery and Employability helps Milwaukee County residents recover suspended or revoked driver's licenses. Participating in this project is a great way to be involved in addressing a significant economic development issue in the community. Citizen Academy City of Milwaukee Educational Services Violence, Assault, and Crime Information Resource
The Milwaukee Police Citizen Academy is a ten-week program designed to provide citizens with a working knowledge of the Milwaukee Police Department. It consists of a series of classes held once a week for three hours. The 30-hour block of instruction will include classroom academics and practical applications in law, police procedure, defense and arrest tactics, firearms training and state of art
technology used to combat crime. Tours of various police facilities and demonstrations of equipment will also be conducted. Attendees may participate in a ride-along with officers. This program will provide citizens an opportunity to ask questions about police services and to express their concerns about quality of life issues. Upon conclusion, citizens completing 80% of the course will participate in a graduation ceremony.

Community Development Grant Administration (CDGA) City of Milwaukee Housing and Neighborhoods Faith and Religion Information Resource Awareness, Advocacy and Organization

Computer Training City of Milwaukee Educational Services Older Adults Information Resource
Throughout the year, the Milwaukee Public Library offers a series of free two-hour classes covering the basics of computers, including computer basics, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email, and internet searching are offered at every library. These classes provide instruction to those citizens who finished formal schooling before computers were widely available, and to those for whom computers are too expensive and who have subsequently had no experience using them.

Homework Help City of Milwaukee Educational Services Literary Services
Milwaukee Public Library's Homework Help program is offered at Central Library and five neighborhood libraries. Elementary and middle school students often come to the libraries looking for help with school assignments. Volunteers listen, guide them and advise them on their homework. Hours are generally week nights from 4 to 7 p.m. Call the libraries listed below for specific days and times when homework help is available. Adult volunteers are needed to mentor and work with young people in the Homework Help program October through May. If you have two hours per week to help a youngster, please call one of these libraries and ask a librarian for details.

Immunization Program City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Youth Services
The City of Milwaukee Health Department Immunization Program manages the administration of vaccine at all of the Health Department Clinics. The mission of the Immunization Program is to decrease the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases through the implementation of interventions aimed at increasing immunization rates. The immunization program is responsible for surveillance and control of vaccine preventable disease in the community. Landlord Training Program City of Milwaukee Educational Services Legal Assistance Race and Ethnicity Disabilities Information Resource
The award winning landlord training program operates out of DNS's downtown office. The goal is to teach landlords fundamental ways to keep illegal activity out of their property. The classes are FREE and held on a regular basis through out the year at various locations. Attendees get a free 100 page comprehensive manual and handouts on a variety of legal and business issues related to managing a property.

Medical Assistance Outreach Program City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Race and Ethnicity
The Medical Assistance Outreach Program is a vital service offered by the Milwaukee Health Department. The Medical Assistance program employees are dedicated to getting community members the health care coverage to which they are entitled, as well as making referrals for clients to receive other important healthcare services. There are several sites throughout the community at which the health care coverage assistance service is offered. The program also provides translator services in Spanish, Lao, Thai, and Hmong. A contracted service is used to translate languages other than these so that there are as few barriers as possible to achieving our goal of servicing the entire Milwaukee community.

Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Violence, Assault, and Crime
The Commission is charged with the responsibility of coordinating the community's response to domestic violence and sexual assault by promoting communication and collaboration among members of law enforcement, victims’ advocates, court staff, school personnel, health care providers, abuser programs, corrections officials, policy makers, children s service providers, prosecutors, and other entities. They educate the community, upgrade the skills and knowledge of professionals, and assist with policy and legislation clarification on issues affecting victims and perpetrators of abuse and assault.

Milwaukee Foreclosure Mediation Program City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Legal Assistance Housing and Neighborhoods Information Resource
The City of Milwaukee is partnering with Marquette University Law School in the Milwaukee Foreclosure Mediation Program – a program designed to help homeowners save their homes from foreclosure. Mediation is a confidential and voluntary process where a homeowner and the lender seeking to foreclose on your home may discuss ways to resolve a foreclosure case, including reinstatement of the loan and modification of the loan terms.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Housing and Neighborhoods Financial Resources
The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 provided the City of Milwaukee with $9.2 million in federal funding for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to address foreclosed properties in Milwaukee neighborhoods impacted by the foreclosure crisis. The NSP Homebuyer Assistance Program provides funding to help prospective homeowners purchase and rehabilitate foreclosed homes they will occupy as their primary residence. Both financial and technical assistance are provided as part of the program.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and HIV Program City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Information Resource
The City of Milwaukee Health Department's Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and HIV Program is supported primarily by the City of Milwaukee with significant assistance from the Wisconsin Division of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Services offered by the program include screening for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV counseling and testing, medical case management for women living with HIV, presentations to community groups and participation in health fairs.

Targeted Investment Neighborhood Initiative (TIN) City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Housing and Neighborhoods Financial Resources
The Targeted Investment Neighborhood (TIN) initiative is designed to sustain and increase owner-occupancy, provide high quality affordable rental housing, strengthen property values, and improve the physical appearance and quality of life of neighborhoods. Well Women Program (WWP) City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Gender
The Well Woman Program (WWP) provides preventive health screening services to low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured.  Well Woman pays for mammograms, Pap tests, and multiple sclerosis testing.  Well Woman works to decrease the mortality rate of breast and cervical cancer in all women in the city of Milwaukee through education, outreach, screening, treatment, community awareness and involvement.

Wisconsin Center for Health Equity City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Information Resource
The Center for Health Equity is dedicated to improving the social and economic factors that strongly influence our public health within the City of Milwaukee as well as throughout the state of Wisconsin. The Center will concentrate on improving the health of our population through three main strategies:

  • Improve understanding of how socioeconomic conditions affect people’s health
  • Encourage and support changes in public policy to improve the health of everyone in our community
  • Build community involvement in policymaking

Helping communities to strengthen their “civic capacity” and become more effective in improving the public policies that affect them and their community’s health. In focusing on these areas, we hope to achieve “health equity,” by which we mean a society where all people have an equal chance to be healthy.

Women, Infants, & Children Program (WIC) City of Milwaukee Awareness, Advocacy and Organization Health Youth Services
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is a special supplemental nutrition program for eligible women, infants, and children. The WIC Program's primary goal is to promote and maintain the health and well being of nutritionally at risk pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children. At the local level, Public Health Nurses provide nursing services in City of Milwaukee WIC clinics.
