Alderman Bohl helped mark the official opening ceremony for the long planned and now realized Hartung Park project on Sunday, June 6, 2010.
“Hartung Park is so popular that it’s been utilized steadily by neighbors, families and kids even before it was truly finished,” said Alderman Bohl, who has been actively working on the Hartung project since 2001. “It gives me and everyone who has had a hand in creating this wonderful public space great satisfaction to see kids, parents and grandparents so thoroughly enjoying themselves at the park,” he said.
Because the park is located in both Wauwatosa and Milwaukee, Alderman Bohl was joined by Wauwatosa Mayor Jill Didier and other Milwaukee and Wauwatosa officials during the opening ceremony.
The restoration of the space – which also includes a tot lot play area – was in large part supported by the Hartung Park Community Association (HPCA), a neighborhood grass roots organization. The HPCA and the city received several grants for the project and city and state funds also contributed to the work.
