Alderman Davis Helps Launch Milwaukee Prescription Discount Program
On September 9, 2009 Alderman Joe Davis, Sr. took part in a special event at the Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center, 8200 W. Silver Spring Dr., to launch Milwaukee’s participation in the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Prescription Discount Card Program administered by CVS Caremark Corporation.
Alderman Davis, who serves on the NLC’s board of directors, sponsored a successful Common Council resolution approving the city’s participation. The free program allows the City of Milwaukee to offer prescription drug discount cards to residents free of charge and cardholders may be eligible for discounts that average up to 20%. “In the current economic climate, where many people are watching what they spend, Milwaukee is happy to partner with the National League of Cities to make this prescription discount card available for our residents,” said Alderman Davis.
“Whether or not an individual has prescription coverage, this program can make it easier for our residents to afford the drugs they need to deal with a short-term illness or stay healthy by managing a chronic condition,” the alderman said.
Cards are available at several locations throughout the city, including all Milwaukee Health Department clinics and several community clinics and organizations at no cost to city residents. City residents can call toll-free 1-888-620-1749 or visit www.milwaukee.gov/health or www.caremark.com/nlc for assistance with the program.
The discount cards are good at more than 59,000 participating pharmacies across the nation and at over 80 Milwaukee locations.
Alderman Davis has been an active leader in the NLC, serving as past chair of the NLC’s Community and Economic Development Policy and Advocacy Steering Committee and currently serving as a member of the NLC’s International Council for 2009.
