COMPUTER SKILLS TRAINING FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
http://www.masterlinktraining.com/?page_id=446

In 2010, the Department of Employee Relations, Training & Development Services Section will not be scheduling in-house computer skills training.  We can only offer the 2002 (XP) version of the Microsoft Office Suite in our training facility and many City departments have upgraded to Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007.

Classes will be available through Instructing Techologies which offers a wide variety of classes including Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007, Adobe, Web Languages, etc., at their Waukesha location (20633 Watertown Court - click here for a map).  Most classes are held from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm.  Instructing Technologies is the vendor we have used over the last 2 years for our in-house courses.

If your department has a need for a particular course we can schedule private, onsite classes if you have at least of 6 students.  However, our facility is only equipped with the Microsoft 2002 (XP) Office suite.  If your department has a training facility, we can schedule onsite training at your location.  OR, a private class can be scheduled at Instructing Technologies' training facility.  Please contact Judy Kammermann for more information (286-3650, email:  jkamme@milwaukee.gov.).

HOW TO REGISTER FOR A CLASS:

  1. DO NOT register directly with Instructing Technologies or you will have to pay out-of-pocket with a credit card!
  2. The registration process is the same as if you were attending an in-house training program.  Choose the class you wish to attend, get your Supervisor's OK, then you or your Supervisor should submit your name and the exact Course Title and Course Date(s) to your department's Training Information Coordinator (click here for the list of the Coordinators).   Do not contact Judy Kammermann to enroll yourself or others.  You must go through your Training Information Coordinator.
  3. Once the registration is processed, you and your Training Information Coordinator will receive the official confirmation for the class from Judy Kammermann of Training & Development Services via E-Mail.
  4. If you follow the instructions listed above you won't have to pay out-of-pocket!  The registration fee will automatically be "deducted" from your Tuition Benefit Account balance.

VERY IMPORTANT!  DO NOT use employee self-service to apply for or enter any information into the system for these courses!  An official record of the class will automatically become a part of your training history after you complete the course.

GUIDELINES:
In order to use the Tuition Benefit for a course attended during work hours, the course must be directly related and critical to your present position. If it’s not directly related, or if it’s for a promotional opportunity, you must attend on your own time!

If your department is paying the registration fee from departmental funds, you may attend on City time.
