(Continued from Grant Awards page)
This grant expands the prevention and first responder capabilities of a number of jurisdictions located in a five county area along the western lakeshore, including Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties.
The City of Milwaukee Fire and Police Departments will be provided equipment that will allow the departments to better navigate confined areas in and around Milwaukee’s port and rivers, assist first responders in viewing incident areas in fog or at night, and sonar systems that will detect objects beneath the lake and river surface.
Other members of the MPSC that benefitted from this grant include the State of Wisconsin-Department of Natural Resources (night and stabilization vision binoculars, sonar units, communication radios, underwater camera, and side scanner units); the City of Mequon (a small craft); the City of Port Washington ( a multi-purpose vessel for fire fighting and diving purposes) and Ozaukee County (a FLIR unit).
The ARRA Port Security Grant builds upon and expands the number of first responder units that will be able to assist each other in the case of an emergency along the lakefront as well as the entire Lake Michigan Sector.
