The next meeting of the Supportive Housing Commission is April 19, 2011.
Annual reports
Who we are
The Supportive Housing Commission was created jointly by the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County in late 2007. The Commission’s charge is to establish goals and benchmarks for the effort to address housing needs for persons with mental illness and other special needs in the community, and to monitor progress and hold the community accountable for meeting those goals. The Commission meets quarterly.
Appointments to the Commission are made by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, Milwaukee Common Council president Willie Hines, and Milwaukee County Board Chair Lee Holloway. The members include mental health advocates, affordable housing experts, elected officials, representatives of agencies that provide services to homeless individuals, foundation executives, citizens, and mental health service consumers.
The formation of the Commission was recommended by the Special Needs Housing Action Team, which met from December 2006 until June 2007 to design strategies to encourage the development of supportive housing.
