Welcome to Milwaukee's StreetShare information pages.  If you are concerned about speeding or pedestrian safety, this is the first place to go for information.  Before you think about speed humps and stop signs, please take some time to watch the two videos below and look through the pages about the four Es.

	Click HERE to view Walt Disney's "Motor Mania" vintage cartoon about road rage and pedestrian safety.  It is funny to see how little things have changed over the years.  Many of us suffer from the same split personality that Mr. Wheeler and Mr. Walker suffer from in this funny but telling film.
	Click HERE to view a more serious video produced by the Madison and Milwaukee police departments.  This video reviews ignored laws commonly ignored by motorists that greatly affect the safety of pedestrians. It is quite helpful if you find it difficult to yield to pedestrians because you don't think other cars will stop or because you are not sure when you have to stop.

StreetShare is a regional program to educate and encourage motorists to share the road with pedestrians and other users.  Funded by grant from the Wisconsin DOT's Bureau of Transportation Safety with funds from the National Highway Transportatin Safety Administration, StreetShare is different than other encouragement programs in that our partners lead by example.  The operators of all City of Milwaukee fleet vehicles have been told to take extra care to yield the right of way to pedestrians and drive the speed limit or slower when appropriate.  From our public works dump trucks to the squad cars for the Milwaukee Police Department, you can expect to see safe, lawful and courteous driving from City employees.

Milwaukee's StreetShare program takes a "four E" approach to the multi-faceted and varied traffic safety problems across the City:

• Engineering solutions from relatively inexpensive in-street "Yield to Pedestrians" signs and high visibility crosswalk signs to the more expensive traffic calming projects like curb extensions.
• Enforcement of pedestrian safety and the speed limit involves strategic enforcement efforts by the Milwaukee Police Department around schools, business districts and on streets with chronic speeding problems
• Education is being done on a regular basis for all drivers of city vehicles and through brochures and this website.
• Encouragement is done via special events with "Slow Down" yard signs, StreetShare balloons, flyers, magnets and when our drivers lead by example.
