On January 23rd 2012 the Milwaukee Fire Department will be dedicating 3 new apparatus. The addition of the two Rescue units and Ambulance 1 will provide a greater level of protection to the citizens of Milwaukee as well as Milwaukee Firefighters. A ceremony will be held at 9:00 am at the quarters of Engine 2 located at 759 N. James Lovell St.

The addition of the Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 will allow the Heavy Urban Rescue Team (HURT) to expand to a second firehouse. This will allow a quicker response for technical rescue from the north and south sides of Milwaukee, as well as its regional response responsibilities. The current HURT firehouse is located on 9th & Greenfield with Engine 12, Truck 11, and Rescue 1.

The second HURT firehouse will be located on 50th & Fiebrantz with Engine 24, Truck 13, and Rescue 2.Internally, the team is divided into four disciplines: structural collapse, rope rescue, trench rescue and confined space rescue. The team also rescues civilians and firefighters in the event of entrapment at a fire scene as a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

Ambulance 1 will be stationed at the quarters of Engine 13 on 30th & Locust. It will provide additional

BLS response capabilities to an area with high call volume

helping to maintain quick response times during a medical emergency.
