Nine Year Old Survive Alive House Student Receives Award

The Survive Alive House is a partnership between the Milwaukee Fire Department and the Milwaukee Public schools. For more than twenty years, students have learned how to safely evacuate their home in the event of a house fire. Alysia had the unfortunate need to use this education at her home when a small fire started on the evening of January 3, 2011. Under Alysia’s guidance, she was able to evacuate her entire family out of the home. Alysia was presented with an award for her actions at Grant Elementary School.

Per MFD Records, a working smoke detector was present at the scene. Milwaukee residents without a working smoke detector can contact the MFD smoke detector hotline at 286-8980.
