Assistant Chief of Police
 

Assistant Chief Mitchell was appointed to the Department as a Police Aide in 1985 and was promoted to Police Officer in 1988. As an Officer, Assistant Chief Mitchell worked at District Five, the Prisoner Processing Section, and the Tactical Enforcement Unit. He was promoted to Detective in 1995 and worked in the Vice Control Division and the Drug Enforcement Administration Federal Drug Task Force. In 2002, Assistant Chief Mitchell was promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives and as a Lieutenant was assigned to the Intelligence Division, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), and the Criminal Investigation Bureau (Property Division and Robbery Unit). He was promoted to Captain in 2007 and during his tenure as a Captain he commanded the Neighborhood Safety Initiative, District Seven, District One, and the Professional Performance Division. 
 

In June of 2011, Assistant Chief Mitchell was promoted to his current rank and assigned as the Bureau Commander of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, which includes all investigative Divisions within the Department.

Assistant Chief Mitchell holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Concordia University of Wisconsin and is also a graduate of the 2006 Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He is also a certified law enforcement instructor and has taught numerous topics of instruction for members of the Department as well as outside agencies. In 2009, Assistant Chief Mitchell attended the Senior Management Institute for Police which is an intensive course offered by the Police Executive Research Forum.
 

Assistant Chief Mitchell is married with four children and has been a life long resident of the City of Milwaukee.
