Nominations sought for Mayor’s Design Awards
Great Milwaukee buildings, improvements, and spaces will be honored
Mayor Tom Barrett today encouraged people to nominate exceptional buildings, individuals, spaces or physical improvements in the city for the annual Mayor’s Design Awards. Now in its thirteenth year, the awards honor aspects of Milwaukee’s built environment that make our city a lively and engaging place.
In the coming weeks, nominations will be vetted – evaluated on the basis of the positive change they have brought to Milwaukee. Sometimes awards go to grand, landmark structures; awards also go to smaller projects such as landscaping in a residential neighborhood. Historic preservation is also recognized by the Mayor’s Design Awards.
To inspire nominations, the Mayor invited nominators to consider a range of categories including “Design that grabs you,” “Go green,” “Historic splendor,” “It’s all in the details,” “Live. Work. Play. Any or all,” “Spaces and places,” “Urban oddities and amenities,” “Urbanism redefined,” and “Urban heroes.”
People can explore the categories and submit nominations for the Mayor’s Design Awards online at www.mkedcd.org/design. To receive consideration, nominations should be submitted before Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
