Act 16 triggers changes to city licensing process

On May 1, 2015, Governor Walker signed into law Wisconsin Act 16 which, among other provisions, prohibits local units of government from regulating transit network companies, vehicles, and drivers. Therefore, effective May 3, 2015, the City of Milwaukee will no longer accept, process, or issue licenses for the operation of network vehicles or drivers. All regulations pertaining to metered fare taxicab and other public passenger vehicles and their drivers remain unchanged.

 

STRONG Homes Loan Program

Partially Forgivable Loans for Emergency & Essential Home Repairs

The STRONG Homes Loan Program offers partially forgivable loans to homeowners throughout the City of Milwaukee. Loans can be used to make emergency and essential home repairs and address building code orders. Loans are repayable, with a deferred payment option available for homeowners who are low income and elderly or disabled.

Earn & Learn is the City of Milwaukee’s youth development and employment initiative. The program provides employment opportunities in the city for high school youth and young adults, exposing them to the working world and improving workforce preparedness.

Compete Milwaukee Transitional Job Program

In 2015, the City of Milwaukee will partner with the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB) and UMOS (United Migrant Opportunity Services) to fund 135 transitional jobs for long-term unemployed men and women to get immediate work to support themselves and their families while seeking unsubsidized work.
