On November 27 and 28 NIDC, with support from Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Presented Two Milwaukee Community Screenings of the The Interrupters, a film by Steve James and Alex Kotlowitz. The Times Cinema hosted the screenings.
The Milwaukee community screenings kicked off a national campaign for reflection, discussion and action around the structural causes of street violence. Interrupters Eddie Bocanegra and Cobe Williams attended the screenings, facilitating question and answer sessions after each event. Mayor Tom Barrett was a special guest Monday 11/28, and Milwaukee Aldermen Murphy, Hamilton, and Davis were in attendance as well.

Witkowiak Park Improvements
Improvements to Witkowiak Park are underway that will make the park safer, improve aesthetics, and increase usage. The project will include new trees along 4th Street, a new U8 soccer field, removal of old concrete steps, and removal of sections of the retaining wall. Mayor Tom Barrett and Alderman Witkowiak hosted the official dedication ceremony to kick off the project.
Faith Purvey and 29th Street Park
neighborhood kids equals “Refoundation”
In July 2011, Artist Faith Purvey worked with Franklin Heights youth on an interactive project. Faith was at Melvina Park 3 times last week while the project developed into the youth designing and building temporary structures. On Saturday, July 23rd, all of the finished structures were assembled and a modular city was displayed at a neighborhood celebration of the project.
