Drop Off Centers
Visit either Drop Off Center to recycle or safely dispose of a wide variety of residential waste. While in the past these centers have been called Self-Help Centers or "the dump", both locations offer a wide variety of disposal options making these sites functioning resource recovery parks. Over 50% of the materials dropped off at these sites are reused, recycled, or composted.

- Motor oil and filters
- Tires (up to 5 passenger tires)
- Asphalt Shingles*
- Brush and branches
- Grass clippings
- Garden debris
- Old furniture
- Contruction or remodeling debris*
*Certain restrictions and fees apply to construction and demolition related items.
Household Hazardous Waste is collected at the Lincoln Avenue Center, Thursday - Saturday. This is a program operated through the Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). Additional HHW collection sites are also available.
This service is only available to City of Milwaukee residents with a valid, state-issued driver's license that shows residency within City limits or a property tax or utility bill to a Solid Waste Fee paying household within the City limits where the name on the bill matches the name on the ID.
NO CONTRACTORS OR INDIVIDUALS PERFORMING COMMERCIAL SERVICES ARE ALLOWED! Certain vehicles will not be allowed access to the Drop Off Centers. These include, but are not limited to vehicles with:
- any type of business or commercial name, logo, or contact information
- ladders or side-walls
- dual rear-axles
- flatbed, utility, dump, or semi trucks
- non-verifiable contents
- loads that are not safely contained or secured or large trialers which cannot maneuver easily throughout the yard
- box trucks where the load cannot be fully inspected
