Project Clean & Green

Each spring the City and community organizations promotes Project Clean & Green, a program designed to foster neighbor-hood pride and ownership through coordinated cleanup and beautification efforts.

You will have one special collection where extra items will be collected. These items can be left at your regular collection point and will be collected on your regular collection day.

Bulky Item Pickup Guidelines

For City of Milwaukee residents in single family, duplexes, or apartments with up to 4 units.

Large, bulky items that do not fit in your garbage cart can be placed next to your cart for collection. City crews will not collect electronics and TVs, appliances, or tires. These items are banned from the landfill by state law and need taken to a Drop Off Disposal Center. Bulky items do not include brush or yard waste. Learn about brush collection.

Regular Pickup: 1 cubic yard of bulky items (the size of a recliner) may be put at your regular collection point for pickup on your regular day. You do not need to fill out an online request or call the City.

Special Pickup: There is a fee for collecting more than 1 cubic yard. Request a special pickup online or call 414-286-CITY (2489).

  • $50 for over 1 cubic yard - 4 cubic yards
  • $150 for over 4 cubic yards - 6 cubic yards

Drop Off: City of Milwaukee residents may drop off bulky waste items at a Drop Off Disposal Center for no charge. This is also where you can dispose of electronics, appliances, and tires for recycling.

Donation: If your bulky items could be reused, consider donating them instead. There are a variety of local organizations that can even collect items from your home. Learn about a variety of local options for donation.

Construction and Demolition Waste is collected differently than Bulky Items. Construction and Demolition Waste can be taken to a Drop Off Disposal Center for a limited fee or collected via a pre-paid request. Call 286-CITY (2489) for additional information and fees. Small amounts of carpet can be picked up curbside and are not considered Construction and Demolition Waste.

Appliances left in the public right of way may be cited and assessed a fee up to $500.
