(MAYOR WELCOMES TEACH FOR AMERICA, CONTINUED)
Teach for American announced it will bring 30 teachers to Milwaukee in the first year, and an additional 60 teachers in the next three years.
Five of the new Milwaukee corps teachers were in attendance at the announcement and Barrett took the opportunity to commend and thank them for their service to Milwaukee’s children.
“To our new teachers, thank you for your dedication to our students and their education,” Barrett said. “Your hard work and commitment will benefit your students, as well as our community and we cannot thank you enough.”
Teach for America is a program that recruits top college graduates to teach for two years in urban and rural schools. They currently have 6,200 corps members in 29 regions throughout America. The new Milwaukee site is due in large part to a $1 million contribution from the Kern Family Foundation and partnerships with Marquette University and Cardinal Stritch University.
