Recruitment Period

Join MFD

Currently, the Milwaukee Fire Department Firefighter recruitment period is over. The next recruitment period is to be determined. However, we strongly encourage those interested in a career in fire service to further their education in the field. Several technical colleges in Southeastern Wisconsin offer two-year associate degrees in fire science: Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC), Gateway Technical College, and Lakeshore Technical College. Additionally, The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh offers a Bachelor's Degree in Fire and Emergency Response Management (FERM).

The Milwaukee Fire Department currently uses the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) as the physical test to be admitted into the training academy as a fire recruit.
