Heavy Urban Rescue Team


HURT (Heavy Urban Rescue Team) consists of 95 members of the department who are trained in specialized rescue in high hazard areas. The team is trained in the areas of:

  1. Building collapse
  2. Confined space
  3. High and low angle
  4. Trench rescue
  5. Firefighter rescue (HURT responds to all 3rd alarms as RIT)

The team trains monthly on a rotating discipline schedule. The team is headquartered out of Engine 12 firehouse at 1400 S. 9th St. (S 9th at W. Greenfield Ave) In the firehouse is Engine 12, Ladder 11, Rescue 1 and HURT 2.

In 2005 HURT responded to 37 runs including greater alarms, dive responses and HURT incidents.
