MPD District 5 Officers Facilitate Infant's Safe Return

Nov. 3, 2008 - Milwaukee Police Officers from the District 5 Anti Gang Unit were able to convince an armed man to return his 9-month-old baby daughter to safety after the man had abducted her and her mother on Saturday, November 1.

The suspect, Wesley Q. Vann (B/M 12-3-79), went to Greendale and abducted a 28-year-old woman with whom he has a 9-month-old baby girl, on Saturday afternoon. The man abducted the two at gunpoint After driving the woman and the infant through several municipalities, the man released the woman in a parking lot in the 8700 block of N. Servite Dr. about 3 p.m. The man threatened to hurt the child and drove away with the baby in the car.

As Milwaukee Police prepared to issue an Amber Alert, District 5 Anti Gang Unit officers were able to make phone contact with Vann and convinced him to surrender the child. Vann dropped the child at a relative's home, left his vehicle there and fled. He was not in custody as of noon Monday. Vann is on parole for armed robbery and was wanted on a violation of his parole at the time of the incident.
