"This is my first year being involved in Earn and Learn. It has truly been an honor and a privilege. I’ve waited patiently to be of age so I could be involved in this amazing organization. Becoming involved in this organization was a steady process of putting my best foot for-ward and constant encouragement.

This chance to work with the Earn and Learn program has meant so much to me. It’s a stepping stone to greater future success. My site gave me the chance to interact with youth my age, younger, and older. This has given me a platform to interact with people of all different backgrounds and accelerate my growth in communication, work skills, and tolerance."

"During my experience with the Earn and Learn program at Discovery World, I have learned many things associated with water and becoming successful. Everyday we’re learning something new. Whether it’s learning ways to keep our freshwaters clean or what’s actually in the water."

“This year I became involved with Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board’s Earn and Learn program. This has been a tremendous experience that has had a significant impact on me.

I obtained my first job through the Earn and Learn Program. I gained the tools necessary for success in the professional work-place. I learned about important things such as resume creation, application filing, and interview techniques. Learning these things has not only given me the ability to be successful, but the confidence to know that I will be. This program has impacted my life by showing me the steps I need to take in order to secure a bright future."

“I found out about Earn and Learn through one of my mother's friends. This kind of experience has meant a lot to me. It is teaching me what it is going to be like in the "real world." It is not always easy to wake up early and get to work on time, but this is what you have to do.

It was nice getting my first paycheck. It also has shown me that I can be more responsible. In the past, my summers have been for sleeping in. Now that I am growing up and getting older, I need to do more with my time and with my life. Instead of sleeping in like a regular teenager, I must get up and go to work.“

"I was in my senior year of high school when one of my female drill sergeants asked me would I be interested in a summer job involv-ing the youth. I immediately said yes because it has always been my dream to work with children and given a chance to display my leadership abilities.

For the past two summers Earn and Learn has played an important role in my life. I’ve learned more about people, how to be open-minded, work with children, and how to be dependable. The program has created a new hunger to take my education to another level to achieve my passion to open my own daycare and become a child care provider."

"I came into the Earn and Learn program a little nervous and not knowing what to expect. This was my first work experience, so you can imagine how scared I was. In the beginning I kept to myself and did what I was told. As time went on, I started to become more comfortable with other staff and the kids we worked with, and I finally felt a part of the team.

I’m learning to be responsible, as taking care of other people’s children is a big responsibility. I’ve learned to talk to my coworker when I’m feeling overwhelmed to let them know, I need some help. Working in this this program shows me that I have to take ad-vantage of every opportunity."

"I have become involved in the Earn and Learn program by working at parks and participating in games with children. I’ve worked in an office, answered phone calls, and much more. This experience means a lot to me because it helps me prepare my-self for the future. It helps me look at how the real work world will be.

The Earn and Learn program has impacted my life because, it changed my attitude. The program helped me to be more respectful to the people I work with and around me. Now that I have become involved in the program, I have gained more work experience."

"This is my first year in the Earn and Learn program. The executive director of Spotted Eagle told my mom and my mom told me. This experience has meant a lot to me because I got to meet some cool people, and formed friendships.

The Earn and Learn program will help me with my goals because it has taught me how to be responsible. I plan to go into the marines and then to college, and responsibility and discipline are two things I’ll need to accomplish those goals."

"I became involved in the Earn and Learn program through school. This experience has meant a lot to me because it not only gives me an income, but helps me follow my dream to help people.

I work at the Salvation Army where I serve the less fortunate and work with some pretty awesome people, including my boss. The Earn and Learn program changed my life because it made me humble myself to help people and not judge or be rude to them, but offer kindness instead. It made me realize that it takes a lot of courage to come to come to the Salvation and get food for your family. Courage I know a lot of people don’t have."

"I first came across Earn and Learn when I began a job search. Who wants to sit in the house all summer? Not me. I would rather make money and interact with others than be a couch potato.

Earn and Learn has been a great opportunity for me to start knowing what the actual work field is about. I’m thankful for it because, it really helps youth my age find something to do with their summers. It has truly changed my life because I went from depending on others, to being independent. I can truly say I have my OWN."

"I became involved in Earn and Learn two years ago through the youth program Urban Underground. They explained that having work experience would be very helpful in life. This experience means a lot to me.

It’s been a very interesting journey and I’ve made a lot of improvements, especially in how I interact with people. I improved my communication skills working with other people used to be an issue for me but over time, I learned that it just takes communication."

"Earn and Learn has had an impact on me in a few different ways, but the one that I can actually say changed me is when I began working with kids. I developed leadership skills and learned how to use those skills when needed.

I also learned how to be patience, because before I got involved in Earn and Learn I really didn’t have patience with a lot of people, but working with kids gave me the opportunity to think before reacting. I developed skills that I thought I wouldn’t have until later on in my life. As a result I have learned to be more patient with myself and ones around me."

"I got involved in Earn and Learn through Milwaukee’s Running Rebels, which I’ve been involved in for the past five years. MAWIB has had an effect on my life because, for the past two summers I was able to work, and that saved me from being on my block around negativity. I’ve been given an opportunity to gain job experience and life skills."

"This program has been a great experience for me since I wouldn't be able to find a job like Alice's Garden. I think being a part of the Earn and Learn program can teach you how the "real life" would be like. How it's going to be like when you get a real job."

"A year ago, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost her employment. At that moment I realized I needed to find a job to help my parents financially, since we went from a two income household to one. I was directed to a workforce agency where I was given an application to apply for my current position.

I now work at the Journey House where I am responsible for the care of 19 children ages five and six. Through the Earn and Learn program I’ve learned how to manage my time and work independently."

"I got involved with the Earn & Learn Program with the help of my cousin Cavalier Johnson. He works at MAWIB and he was telling me how the program is a great summer job for me to get into. That it will have me busy during the summer instead of sitting in my room looking bored.

This experience meant a lot to me because it shows not only me, but others in the community that not only adults can work but youths too. It keeps the youth off the streets and away from chaos and drama. I think it’s a great experience for teens. This program taught me not to be lazy and how to reach for success. It taught me that my education can get me anywhere in life."

"I got involved in the Earn and Learn through Running Rebels. I’ve been involved with Running Rebels for three and a half years in different program like junior leadership. This experience taught me how to be to work on time, how to communicate with my supervisor, and how to plan my days.

This had an impact on my life because I have enough money to buy school supplies and school cloths. My goals for the future are to finish high school and find a good college to go to, to start my own business. I'm not really sure what business I want to start but, I’m looking to start a business where kids can have fun at, like Dave and Buster."

"I was referred to the Earn and Learn program through an elder at my church. She told me there was a summer work program with Spotted Eagle and that I should sign up for it. This summer pro-gram has had a deep impact on my life.

This program has helped me build more confidence. It has given me a sense of accomplishment because I can get a job; I’m organized, focused and more responsible. In the future I want to open my own martial arts dojo so that I can help other kids build their self-esteem and prepare them to enter the workforce just like this program helped me.

"I got involved in the Earn and Learn program through my school. I saw flyers for the program in the guidance office and some of my friends who did it gave me positive feedback. This program has changed my life. It made me realize that nothing in life comes easy. If you want something, you have to work for it.

This experience has meant a lot to me. By working with my coworkers, it shows me how to work with different types of people. It showed me that people come from all different back-grounds and showed me the world in a whole different light."

"I became involved with the Earn and Learn summer work experience through my adoptive father. He asked me if I wanted to join and after I said yes, he helped me apply for it. I was able to learn things about landscaping and some of my duties were to pull weeds or do some mulching.

I’ve had crazy but fun adventures while in the program, such as helping elders to developing my organizational skills. I’ve accomplished getting or should I say earning a job for the summer as my first job."

"This summer, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work in the Earn and Learn program. This program has given me the chance to earn money during the summer months while also learning interesting things every day.

Working at Discovery World, as a part of the Road to Wealth program, I get to meet new people and display my knowledge about a subject on a day to day basis. I talk to people about Lake Michigan and how it should be considered an asset to Milwaukee. It has been a great experience and it has truly meant a lot to me."

"I became involved in the Earn & Learn Program to have a good work experience. My step sister introduced it to me. This experience means a lot to me. It shows my strengths and weaknesses, and what I need to improve in my work ethic. It also showed me that it is okay to work with people of all ages. This program changed my life in many ways

I get up early, I’m respectful to my boss and coworkers, I’m on time, save money, and I help others. I can do anything if I put my mind to it and, it showed me how to be prepared for any job or career I take on from this day forward."

"I learned about the Earn and Learn program through networking. My brother and I filled out applications and I was the only one that got accepted. This experience has taught me how to clean and cook outside of home. It was really good just having the work experience.

The Earn and Learn program gave me something to do over the summer and gave me my first work experience. In the future I want to complete high school and go to college and study art or medicine. This program has helped me because now I have references and skills that I can add to my resume instead of a blank page."

"When I got the job through Earn and Learn, I was glad because it would help me with so many things. I’ve always been a hard worker and looked forward to my new job. I soon found out that I would be working with kids, and at first I thought why do I have to work with kids? They’re going to look up to me as a role model.

As time went on, I got to work with the kids more and I thought about being a teacher because I had good teaching skills. It’s also a great experience because I get to earn money, and do the things I want. I really appreciate the people and the time they dedicate to the program."

"I’ve been involved in the Earn and Learn program for two years as a wildlife technician. During this time I’ve worked with kind, knowledgeable and hardworking people. I’ve learned many skills such as, identifying weeds, how to prune trees, and how to stop the spread of invasive species.

Through this program I am able to build a high quality resume, create a savings account for college, and become an independent teenager and for that, I am very thankful that the Earn and Learn program gave me the opportunity to learn these skills."

"I learned about the Earn and Learn program from my dad too. He said the program could help me get a job. This experience for me has meant additional business networking and it is my first job.

This summer program has been a period of growth. I’ve matured a lot while in the program and it helped me take on more responsibilities. I now have a sleep schedule that goes with my job, I manage my money with each paycheck, which resulted in me getting my first Wisconsin ID and opening my first bank ac-count. As a result of Earn and Learn I was able to gain more job skills and help the elderly."

"I got involved with the program MCLC through my brother, who worked with the program in the past. The experience means a lot to me because not many teens take the time to learn about nature.

As I spent more time with nature, it started to affect me a lot. My knowledge has expanded a lot on what’s good and bad for the environment. I spread the word about nature and inspired my family to go green, and to appreciate nature more. I make sure not to litter anymore and pick up trash when I see it. I hope to become a crew leader and help others understand the importance of nature."
