How We Got To This Point And Where We Are Going
Since the early 1990s, Milwaukee has been studying, and restudying, light rail transit. Ironically, during this time over a dozen new light rail systems have been studied and built in other mid-size cities.
The study process seems destined to continue for at least several more months as another alternatives analysis, known as the Downtown Transit Connector Study, is about to be completed. The results of this study could shape the form and function of public transit in Milwaukee for decades to come. This study will propose the expenditure of significant sums of public money and will recommend transportation technologies that may or may not be in the public interest. Therefore, I felt that a newsletter article on the history of these transportation studies and a discussion of the improvements being considered would be of interest to 4th District residents.
