Attention Contractors: Century City Demolition Bids Sought
The City of Milwaukee is inviting bids for demolition of the Century City site (former Tower Automotive facility) at 2725 W. Hopkins St. (part of which is located in the 1st Aldermanic District). Please see the official invitation for bid notice here.
One MANDATORY pre-bid walk through will be held at the Century City Site on Monday, May 7, 2012, and begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. Enter at Gate 2 - 2725 W. Hopkins St.
Copies of the bid documents may be obtained at the office of the Department of Neighborhood Services, 841 N. Broadway, Room 105, free of charge during normal business hours (or by mail, upon payment of a $5 charge).

Redistricting Brings1st District Changes
According to Alderman Hamilton, the redistricting process completed earlier this fall by the Common Council will mean new 2012 voting wards, polling locations, and district boundaries for aldermanic districts, including the 1st District.
Effective in April 2012:
• The western boundary of the district will be N. 43rd St. between W. Calumet Rd. and W. Silver Spring Dr., N. 55th St. between W. Silver Spring Dr. and W. Hampton Ave., and the 30th St. rail line from W. Hampton Ave. to W. Capitol Dr.
• The area west of N. 43rd St. and north of W. Silver Spring Dr. will be in the 9th Aldermanic District.
• All voting wards within the district have been renumbered, and several have had their boundaries altered.

The report and recommendations of the Flooding Study Task Force, co-chaired by Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, were approved by the Common Council’s Public Works Committee in July 2011.

The task force was created after last summer’s devastating flooding and basement backups resulted in millions of dollars in property damage and eventual disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The task force was charged with recommending remedies for storm water and sewage backup flooding of city residential and commercial properties, and flooding of streets and alleyways.
