How to Prevent Your Vehicle from Being Stolen
The Milwaukee Police Department’s District Two has recently seen an increase in vehicle thefts involving unattended motor vehicles being left running with the keys in the ignition. This is just a friendly reminder from District Two to never leave your vehicle unattended if it is running, or if the keys are left in the ignition, as this is the time of year when this type of motor vehicle theft tends to increase because of the colder weather. It is extremely easy to prevent becoming the victim of this type of motor vehicle theft. Please make sure to stay with your vehicle while it is warming up and never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running with the keys in the ignition (even if it is just for a few seconds). Also, please do not leave your vehicle unattended even if the doors and windows are locked, as suspects will break your window to gain entry to your vehicle. Remember it only takes a second for someone to enter your vehicle and take it if you leave the keys in the ignition. Also, it is a violation of City of Milwaukee ordinances to leave your vehicle unattended with the keys in the ignition when it is parked on a public street.
