Alderman Murphy Pushes to Bury 138kV Power Line
The Public Service Commission held a Nov. 27, 2012 public hearing on the proposed 138,000-volt power lines that would run across part of western Milwaukee. During that hearing, the body heard arguments surrounding various routes the lines could take, as well as whether the lines should be below- or aboveground.
The City of Milwaukee previously has endorsed a proposal that supports placing the power lines underground along 95th St., where they will create the least disruption to the urban landscape. Alderman Michael J. Murphy, Mayor Tom Barrett and WE Energies President Gale Klappa signed a letter to the Public Service Commission this past summer asking that the lines be buried underground. The letter goes on to urge the Public Service Commission to select an underground route that either runs along N. 95th St. or parallel to the Hwy. 45 right-of-way.
