Mayor Barrett and Other Area Officials Push for State Aid for Local Roads
February 11, 2014
Mayor Barrett and other Mayors from local municipalities requested that surplus Department of Transportation funds should be redirected to local road projects. The State Assembly is to hear a bill tomorrow that will direct the use of the surplus funds on various highway projects.
Mayor Barrett stated, "It doesn't do us any good to spend hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars, billions of dollars on highway projects if people can't get to the highways without going through pothole after pothole after pothole."
Mayor Barrett has been a long-time proponent of a “fix-it first” approach when it comes to our transportation system. Given the harsh Milwaukee winter, the local roads are in great need of pothole and other repair.
