Milwaukee Police Department Office of Media and Communications August 4, 2010 - After 28 days without a homicide in the city of Milwaukee, we experienced 13 homicides between July 11 and August 1. Due to the hard work of detectives in the Criminal Investigation Bureau working in partnership with officers in the districts, six of those homicides have been cleared.
As we know the media report these crimes when they occur, we want to make sure the community is aware when arrests are made and dangerous people are taken off the street. Following is an update on arrests in the homicides of these victims:
· Thomas D. Bender - Trevaughn C. Rayford arrested and charged with first degree reckless homicide · Marianne S. York - Warren R. McNeal arrested and charged with first degree intentional homicide · Darious L. Souter - Lisimba L. Love arrested and charged with first degree reckless homicide; Kenneth Love, arrested and charged with armed robbery with use of force · Andre P. E. Evans - Howard E. Brown arrested and charged with first degree reckless homicide · Dei-Amontz D. Smith - a 19 year old suspect has been arrested but has not yet been charged · Frederick A. Brown - David Masa-Galindo arrested and charged with first degree intentional homicide, party to a crime
As of August 4, 2010, we have 49 homicides in Milwaukee compared to 51 at the same time last year. We continue to work with our neighborhood partners to prevent the next tragic crime.
Additionally, Milwaukee Police have arrested 13 people for 15 armed robberies (18 counts) in the past week.
We continue to work on clearing those unsolved homicides and other violent crimes that have made the headlines in recent weeks. We hope the community will continue to seek out the most accurate information directly from the Milwaukee Police Department when it comes to crime in the city of Milwaukee.
