KK River project named 1 of 25 best public works projects in 2013
In late 2009, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (the District) entered into an Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement with the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (the Authority) to provide acquisition and relocation services for 83 private properties along the Kinnickinnic River.
This agreement was part of the District’s larger initiative to mitigate flood issues along the entire Kinnickinnic River with the 83 private properties located between South 6th and South 17th Streets.
The cooperation between the two agencies for this project has been so successful that the American Public Works Association recently named the project as one of the 25 best public works projects of 2013. To date, the District, through the Authority’s efforts, has acquired 59 of the 83 properties and has relocated 83 tenant units with the majority of the tenants staying in the City of Milwaukee. Congratulations to the acquisition and relocation team consisting of Rhonda Szallai, Dwayne Edwards and Bunkie Miller!
